The heroic story of a dictator (Cohen) who risks his life to ensure that democracy will never come to the country he so lovingly oppresses. Specifically, he is exiled to New York after being secretly replaced by a lookalike goat herder. The project is inspired the romance novel Saddam Hussein wrote, ‘Zabibah and the King’, which was a story about a nice dictator 1300 years ago, but was really about himself. The movie is scripted, rather than another mockumentary like ‘Borat’ or ‘Bruno’, though it comes from the same director. I would have liked to have seen him stay as a dictator for longer (he is dethroned after 15 minutes) and cause trouble on the world stage, instead of working in a health food shop and falling in love. But it still has a lot of decent laughs and some edgy social commentary. [Critics: 58%] [Public: 6.5] – Ranked: 9th Best
