Then he learns a secret about his wife that upends his world again and puts him on a road trip. The director of Sideways and About Schmidt always finds a fantastic tone, floating between subtle hilarity and touching poignancy. As with those previous titles, this is a story of recovery and Clooney gives a textured, human performance that’s one of his best.
