Sarah Burke was another extreme athlete that took a deadly fall. On January 10th, 2012 Burke crahsed during a training run on the superpipe in Salt Lake City. She suffered irreversible damage to the brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest on the slope.
Burke was a six-time X games champion for the superpipe event. She was also the one that convinced the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to hold the superpipe event for the upcoming 2014 Olympics. Burke would have been a favorite to win the gold for the event.
